Tracing a Pension

Pension file Did you know that the government run a special service to help you trace pension schemes that you might have had an interest in, but have forgotten the contact details?   This In Brief article gives you all the information you need.

Many of us have worked for several different companies over the years and it's very easy to lose track of different pension schemes that we may have been involved with in the past.  Some of them may have required us to make a contribution and we are therefore more likely to remember them, but there are others that may not have required any payment from employees at all.

The government run Pension Service offers a tracing facility that can help you to track down a pension even if you've lost the original details and don't know who to contact.  They keep a database with information about more than 200,000 pension schemes and they will use this data to search for any pensions that you may have been involved with.

It's a completely free service and well worth looking into.  You might find that you have an entitlement to a pension that you have forgotten all about and, let's face it, these days we need all the financial support we can get.  Click on any one of the underlined links in this article and it will take you straight to the relevant page on the Pension Service website.
