One of the problems with growing older or retiring from a job is the isolation that might occur or the sense of being cut off from all your friends. One way to alleviate that is to join some online social networks, like FaceBook. You can make new friends and stay connected with family and old friends, no matter how far away they are. Staying connected will help you avoid memory loss and the depression of loneliness.

Take naps often. They don't have to be long naps. Short 20-30 minute naps can boost your mood and alertness. It will also increase alertness and awareness of the activities going on around you. There is some evidence that short naps, taken at least 3 times a week by men, lowered their risk of heart attacks by almost 40%.

Want to make your own aspirin? Quite a few Baby Boomers take an aspirin everyday as a heart benefit. The Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry has conducted a study that indicates eating fruits and vegetables may help your body make its own aspirin. In their study, patients who received benzoic acid could make their own salicylic acid, which is the component that generates the anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving aspects of aspirin.

Salicylic acid is found in fruits and vegetables as a natural product. Some fruits to keep in your diet include, raisins, raspberries and blackberries, boysenberries, cantaloupe, cherries, cranberries, oranges, plums, strawberries and pineapple.

Vegetables include broccoli, chili peppers, cucumber, spinach, squash, sweet potato, tomatoes (paste and sauce), green peppers, radishes and courgettes.

Herbs and spices have the highest concentrations of salicylic acid and include aniseed, cayenne, celery powder, cinnamon, curry, dill powder, oregano, paprika, rosemary, sage, thyme, mint, black pepper, to name a good list, but not all. Honey and Worcestershire source also contain salicylic acid.

Our sex drive seems to decrease with the increase in years. Eating oatmeal, citrus fruits and honey can increase your sex drive. Your blood supply needs testosterone and oats have a chemical that will release testosterone into your blood and increase your sex drive and orgasm strength. Vitamin C in citrus fruits will improve sperm count and increase mobility. Honey brings vitamin B to your body's chemistry and will help you use estrogen to increase your blood flow leading to arousal.

Worried about heart attacks? Get a flu shot. Sound weird? The researchers at the University of Texas Health and Science Center at Houston, discovered that the risk of a fatal heart attack increases by 30% for up to three days after you've been diagnosed with the flu or an infection in your respiratory tract. They suggest that almost 100,000 deaths from heart attacks could be prevented every year if heart patients just got a flu jab.

Everyone knows that improving your diet will lead to better health. But did you ever believe that all those little pieces of advice your grandmother used to irritate you with when you were young might save your life or make it better, now? Make friends, take naps, eat fruits and vegetables and get your flu jab...remember?
