Money Made Clear

No thumbnail specified Every now and then someone in the Government comes up with a bright idea that produces something really quite useful for the general population. By way of example they have got together with the FSA and created a free financial advice service.  It's called Moneymadeclear and it really is worth a look.
There is an excellent section on Pensions and Retirement that is of particular interest to our members.  As well as the web site they also offer a telephone helpline and even face-to-face interviews that are available through the offices of Citizens Advice and Age Concern. And it's all at no cost.

Our beloved Chancellor, Alistair Darling said,  "Moneymadeclear is free, impartial advice for all, whether you are unsure about the small print in a mortgage form, want advice about opening a savings account for your children or grandchildren, or you want some help dealing with repayments before they get out of hand."   He went on to say that he expected the free service to provide advice to one million people in the next year.  It's had a trial run in the North of England and apparently helped more than 500,000 people according to the Government, so there's clearly a need.

The Government have earmarked £20M for the first year to get the service up and running, but future running costs are going to be covered by helping themselves to up to £100M from dormant bank accounts.  This is a cunning scheme announced by Mr Darling in last year's pre-budget report.

A lot of the information on the website is in a very brief outline format but then provides you with links to other sites.  This can be a bit confusing and means a fair bit of 'clicking around' and jumping from one site to another, but overall it's a very useful site with lots of information available if you're prepared to look for it.

You can contact  the Moneymadeclear helpline on 0300 500 500 or visit the site at http://www.moneymadeclear.org.uk/
