Travelling Alone
Travelling alone is such an exciting concept and is something worth trying for anyone who is adventurous enough. There are a myriad of reasons why people travel alone and sometimes it is just as enjoyable as travelling with a bunch of friends or family. Of course, there are some downsides when you’re all by yourself, and this article will take a look at some of the pros and cons of Travelling solo.
People find that one of the great things about traveling solo is the flexibility – in everything. You’ve got flexibility in planning your schedules, your itinerary, and how you spend your money, among others. You can set the pace of your travel without having to worry about how others will feel about your decisions. Being alone gives you the opportunity to enjoy your trip as you want it with no restrictions. Travelling alone also gets rid of having to find common ground with others. When travelling with companions, there is the need to satisfy everyone’s preferences – in terms of the accommodations they like, the places you go to, what you eat, etc. Alone, you are able to maximize your time and money the way you see fit.
Most people say that travelling alone has given them a greater sense of self – and a whole new adventure. They are able and are more willing to explore and see new things than they would be if they had companions with them. Travelling alone is an adventure as you face decisions by yourself, meet new people, and learn about the place you are in.
Of course, there will be a few discomforts and things to be wary of when you are alone. One of the most common is eating alone – something most people have yet to get used to. In travelling for the first time, many people feel that they are being stared at in bars or restaurants. While there is a certain discomfort in eating alone, there is also a way to combat it. Try chatting up the waiter or another would-be traveller. Talking to people, especially a local, gives your trip a whole new flavour and makes it all the more interesting. In truth, most people aren’t likely to stare at you and feel sorry for you - they are probably not even thinking about you at all.
Some solo travellers might feel a bit lonely for the first few days of your trip. But it will pass as you get used to the feeling of being on your own and you start to take in the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of your destination.
For the solo traveller, there is definitely the need to be more wary of the surroundings – the things that occur and people around you. While no one wants to be pessimistic, it is always best to expect the best but prepare for the worst. There is also the need for you to plan ahead extensively in some areas, such as mapping out your routes so you won’t get lost, bringing medication in case you have trouble finding a chemist or a doctor, and staying only in places where you feel confident that it's safe.
All in all, travelling alone, even with its concerns, is something every individual should try in their life. Looking back at it, one can say that it was an exciting and truly rewarding experience.
