Earn Money by Writing Articles for the Internet

Writing in Retirement
When we retire there is the inevitable question of finances to consider.  Whatever kind of pension we might have we will undoubtedly have far less disposable income than we had when we were at work.  We may be lucky enough to have some savings or perhaps investments that are bringing in an income as well, but many retired people still find themselves needing to earn an additional wage.
The good news is that there are many ways to bring in this additional income - and you don't have to work for someone else to get it either!  Retirement Revenue is all about ways of making extra cash.

One good way that appeals to many people of our age is writing articles for the internet.  There are lots of benefits to doing this, not least the monetary aspect of course.  If you have always fancied writing articles, but wondered where to start you should write about the things that interest you.  You can then move on top learn about new subjects and topics and also write for several different markets and people.

The idea of writing can be nerve wracking at first if you aren't used to it.  But the good thing about writing for the internet - as opposed to writing for magazines for example - is that articles are generally quite short.  Lengths of around 400 to 500 words are quite common; 400 words is about half the length of this article so you can see it isn't too much to aim for.

But how do you earn money from your writing?

Well there are several ways you can tackle this.  Some websites act as outlets to bring you in front of an audience of potential clients.  A good example here is www.constant-content.com.  The benefit of this site is that you can choose what you want to write about and create whatever length articles you want to.  An article of around 250 words is about the shortest length but beyond that the sky is the limit.

You can also set your own prices here and create articles based around clients' requests or your own particular interests.  It is a good way to find an inroad into the idea of writing articles and it will give you some good experience as well.  You can go at your own pace and write as and when you want, which allows you to get started without too much pressure and without set deadlines to meet.

Once you get some experience and confidence in your own writing skills, you can try going one more step up the ladder.  There are countless websites on the internet today that are virtual marketplaces for people who want articles on all kinds of subjects - and the writers who can supply them.  This could include you, once you have the confidence to put yourself out there!

Sites such as www.elance.com and www.peopleperhour.com enable you to join and bid on a client's request.  The client then chooses a preferred writer from all those who placed a bid and that writer gets to work producing the requested articles.

The important thing to remember here is not to set your prices too low.  Ask yourself what you can offer that makes you different from anyone else.  Clients will often pay a premium to get a better quality writer.

This is where your life experience will come in handy.  What do you know that you could easily write about now?  What jobs have you done and which careers have you made progress in during your working life?  Think about your hobbies and interests as well - you would be surprised how many writing jobs you could apply for that you have plenty of knowledge about.

There are literally thousands of clients out there looking for reasonably talented writers who would love having access to all the knowledge gleaned from years of life experience.  Our own Retirement Revenue site is a good example. And you can charge a premium for supplying such articles that many clients would be only too glad to pay.

Ideally you can eventually find your own clients and perhaps even create a small website to help advertise your writing skills.  This is truly a fantastic hobby that really does pay dividends in more ways than one for us retired people.  To this end, make sure you keep proper records of all the articles you sell as you will probably have to pay tax on anything you earn.  If you are going to write seriously and you intend to start bringing in a regular income from your writing, make sure you speak to an accountant about registering as a self employed person.  You need to make sure everything is kept above board at all times.

There is no doubt that writing can be therapeutic, fascinating, enjoyable and a great earner as well.  With all these benefits available to you, you could soon be enjoying an additional income during your retirement years.
